The Route - The Adventure Awaits!

What Makes This Trip so Special?

Our carefully crafted 10 Day Due North Itinerary takes you deep into the heart of Northern Vietnam’s most spectacular regions. You’ll traverse diverse terrain, from smooth winding mountain roads to scenic valleys, with some optional off-road sections for the adventurous. This Vietnam motorcycle tour will lead you through the provinces of Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Son La, and Hoa Binh, each offering its own unique charm and incredible riding.

Key Highlights of your Adventure

Exploring the tranquility of Ba Be Lake and its surrounding ethnic villages.
Conquering the iconic Ha Giang Loop, including the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass.
Immersing in diverse ethnic minority cultures, from the H’mong to the Dao and Tay, staying in traditional homestays.
Riding through stunning rice terraces in Mu Cang Chai and Hoang Su Phi, often called the “stairs to heaven.”
Experiencing authentic local life and cuisine, savoring delicious Vietnamese dishes prepared by locals.

When is the 'BEST' Time to Go?

For the ultimate Northern Vietnam experience, the best time to go is typically October to April for dry roads and pleasant temperatures. March-April offers lush, blooming landscapes, while October-November showcases the golden hues of ripe rice terraces – truly magical! We generally advise against July/August due to higher chances of heat, humidity, and potential for flooding or landslides.

FAQ

Road conditions in Northern Vietnam vary significantly. While major roads are generally paved, you’ll encounter winding mountain passes, some sections with older pavement, potholes, and occasional gravel patches, especially after rain. The Honda CB500X is well-suited for these conditions. Its decent suspension travel and power make it capable of handling 99% of the routes comfortably, including some off-road sections. Only extreme unpaved sections or deep mud would pose a real challenge.
You will need a valid passport with at least 6 months of validity remaining to obtain a tourist visa for Vietnam. For driving, it’s generally required to have your home country’s motorcycle license and an International Driving Permit (IDP) (1968 convention). While some sources suggest some countries’ licenses are eligible without transfer, it’s safest to have both. It’s also crucial to have personal health insurance that covers you in case of an accident or illness.
First of all, you do not need to worry about this. It is the guide’s job. However, fuel is generally available in towns and larger villages along common tour routes. However, in more remote areas, gas stations can be scarcer. It’s always wise to fill up whenever possible. The Honda CB500X has a good fuel capacity (around 4.7 gallons or 17.7 liters) and offers a decent fuel range, typically around 350-400 km (220-250 miles) on a full tank, depending on riding style and road conditions. This is usually sufficient for daily legs without needing to carry extra fuel.
Yes! While Vietnam’s roads can be chaotic, especially in cities, riding in Northern Vietnam offers a different experience with less dense traffic. The CB500X provides stability and power, which can be an advantage. However, safety depends largely on your riding experience, defensive riding habits, and adherence to local traffic laws. Always wear a helmet, protective gear, maintain a moderate speed, keep a safe distance, and be aware of other vehicles. For inexperienced riders, a guided tour is highly recommended. Ensure your rental bike is well-maintained.
We will have detailed discussions about accommodatio. However, accommodation on a Northern Vietnam motorcycle tour can range from local homestays in ethnic minority villages, offering an authentic cultural experience, to guesthouses, hotels, and even eco-lodges or resorts in more developed areas. We aim to balance comfortable stays with cultural immersion, often including a mix of different types of lodging.
