Why We Refuse to Rent 50cc Motorbikes

Vietnam Motorcycle Rentals: Honda Cub - front left angle

Well, the fact is, we DON’T refuse to rent them. We refuse to rent them for touring and one way journeys. We rent them to be used for the correct purpose, which is NOT long distance travel.

Obviously, due to the new legislation and implementation thereof, Rentabike Vietnam has seen a huge upsurge in the number of requests we have gotten for 50cc motorbikes for road trips in Vietnam.

We think driving 50cc motorbikes on long road trips between cities in Vietnam is unsafe, dangerous, stupid, and potentially illegal for the following reasons:

Contents

Safety

Limited Speed and Power: 50cc motorcycles have low top speeds, making it difficult to keep up with traffic flow, especially on highways. They can also take time to reach any significant speed and this could be dangerous when entering a flow of fast moving traffic. ALl of this increases the risk of accidents.

Vulnerability: The small size and low power of 50cc motorcycles make them less visible to larger vehicles, increasing the risk of being overlooked and involved in a collision.

Unsuitable for Long Distances: 50cc motorcycles are designed for short commutes and lack the comfort and features needed for long-distance travel, leading to fatigue and reduced concentration.

Dangerous

Road Conditions: Vietnamese roads can be challenging, with varying surfaces, heavy traffic, and unexpected obstacles. A 50cc motorcycle’s limited power and small wheels make it less stable and more susceptible to accidents in these conditions.

Traffic: Vietnamese traffic can be chaotic and unpredictable, with a mix of motorbikes, cars, trucks, and buses. A 50cc motorcycle’s low speed and small size make it difficult to navigate safely in such conditions.

Stupid

Impracticality: 50cc motorcycles have limited storage space, making it challenging to carry luggage for a road trip.

Mechanical Issues: 50cc motorcycles are not designed for long-distance travel and are more prone to breakdowns, leaving you stranded in remote areas.

Fatigue: Riding a 50cc motorcycle for long distances is physically demanding and can lead to fatigue, reducing your ability to react quickly and safely.

Faulty Logic: If you are not confident enough to drive a 100cc bike minimum on a long trip, what makes you think that a 50cc would make you any safer?

Illegal

Highway Restrictions: 50cc motorcycles may be prohibited on certain roads or highways due to their low speed and vulnerability.

Alternatives

Consider a larger motorcycle (100cc or preferably higher) that is more suitable for long-distance travel. We have so many options for you to choose from.

FAQ

We offer a wide range of motorcycles from 100cc and above, including semi-automatic and manual options, which are much better suited for touring. We also suggest considering riding pillion with an experienced driver or exploring other transportation options.
As with all of our bikes, we maintain them to a very high standard. However, breakdowns can happen. If you have any issues the first thing to do is call us on the emergency number provided on the Key Fob and let us help you.
Our 50cc rentals are geared towards both short term and long term rentals. The real point here is that they are for city rentals, not touring.
We only have 01 type of 50cc motorbikes and that is the Honda Cub copy which is made in Taiwan. They are for short-distance commutes and local use. They are not suitable for touring or long journeys.

Then, we will insist that you get a bike from a different shop. We will not encourage you to do something that will most likely cause harm to you and the bike.

50cc For a Roadtrip - Don't Do It!

Hopefully by now, we have convinced you not to even consider a 50cc motorcycle for a road trip between cities in Vietnam. We highly discourage this due to safety concerns, impracticality, and potential legal issues. Prioritize your safety and consider the alternatives offered.
