Day 1: Ha Noi – Bac Son
To get out of town quickly we need to take the main highway, however, we soon turn off and take the quieter roads to Bac Son. We pass through some very quiet and scenic agricultural land before entering the Bac Son Valley. This we where we really begin to feel the tour.
Day 2: Bac Son – Cao Bang
Now that we are on the quieter roads we still need to remain vigilant as quite unexpected things may happen as we wind our way up to Cao Bang. We can stay near the falls this night so that we have plenty of time for sightseeing the next morning.
Day 3: Cao Bang – Day Trips
After taking a boat trip on the falls we can head over to Cao Bang City. We can do this directly or take a loop passing by some of the historical sights in the area. In the evening we can head to the local market and see what surprises they may have for us.
Day 4: Cao Bang – Ba Be
We take the smaller roads to get to Ba Be and pass through some great scenery, historical places, and interesting geographical areas. We’ll climb very high to get over the mountains and it can get pretty chilly. This is one of the few areas in Vietnam that sees snow. We then descend to ba Be Lake which is full of interesting places to visit.
Day 5: Ba Be – Day Trips
There is a great deal to see and do in Ba Be, whether it be hanging out on a boat or kayaking to one of the small islands. It is also possible to take a short loop around the area and explore. The world is your oyster 🙂
Day 6: Ba Be – Hanoi
This is a long home run, some 240km so we need to be up early and on the road if we plan to get home before dark. No one likes driving in twilight!!!! We can split this up into 3 sections with stops so that we remain alert as we experience ever more increasing traffic. If necessary we can split this leg a little and overnight in Bac Kan or Thai Nguyen, which makes it much easier to get back to Hanoi and be washed up and ready for our farewell meal.
