The 3 Types of Motorbike in Vietnam

There is a wealth of potential options when looking at which motorbike or scooter to use for traveling around Vietnam. The good news about renting a motorbike is that you can swap between a few different kinds to see what suits you best. Then, if you decide to buy, you have the necessary experience. Here are just a few of the many choices you’ll have when you start looking at your bike options.

Types of Scooters

50cc Scooters

The 50cc scooter size is small, slower and not really advisable for two people, but they DO have their advantages.
If you want a get-around-town type of scooter, a 50cc scooter could be just the ticket. You’ll be able to keep up just fine with stop-and-go traffic in the city and some models can even get up to 50 MPH, though 35 to 40 MPH is probably a more average top speed. They are great to learn on if you have no previous experience.

50cc scooters are relatively inexpensive and operating small scooters may be cheaper, too.
Another nice thing about a 50cc gas scooter is that you don’t need a driver’s license to ride this kind of scooter in Vietnam.
For an economical commuter vehicle that can zip in and out of traffic easily and park almost anywhere, 50cc scooters can be just the thing!

110cc/125cc/150cc Scooters

The 150cc scooter (or slightly smaller 125cc/110cc scooter) is the perfect size scooter. It’s not too big and definitely not too small! Big enough to seem substantial against cars and other vehicles on busy streets, but not too big to lose the ease of control and balance.

Types of Motorbike

150cc Motorbike

If you want a bike with more pep and size than the traditional 50-125cc scooter (and many people do eventually upgrade when they realize the limitations of an entry-level scooter), you might look into moving up to a 150cc bike. Even if you’re small, you should be able to find a comfortable fit. The seat height on the XR150, for example, is 82cm and most people find they can ride it.

250cc Motorbike

The 250cc size bike is much larger, heavier and can go faster with more stability. You’ll definitely have good power and acceleration, no matter how you decide to use it. These are suited more to long trips on highways riding around town. However, carrying anything on them can be a pain, whether it be a pillion or your weekly shopping.

The 250cc bikes are often called performance bikes and may have enhancements and upgrades to prove that fact. This size of bike will have no trouble going the speeds needed on expressways, so if you need that, then this size might be right for you.

We have a wide range of scooters and motorbikes for rental. Check out the options here!
