We do not spend 8 hours driving ourselves up on the highway to get to Ha Giang. We take a comfortable VIP bus and drive through the night. This way we get a little sleep and can enjoy our first full day of riding.
The route distances and times are for direct routes so those that wish to stop and visit sites will need to add some time for this. Those who wish to take the detour routes on the rougher tracks will also need to add plenty of time. As you can see, every day we have ample time to do whatever we wish and are never going to be in a rush or driving in the dark on dangerous roads.
We can make this a very rugged tour taking the H’Mong highways through the mountains or one that is easy driving with lots of pit stops. You call the shots, so just let us know what you like.
We strongly recommend spending more time up here than the average tourist because there is so much to see and it is such a unique place.

6 days is a good amount of time to spend up in this province and allows you to take your time either on the dirt or stopping at the historical sites. There will not be too much driving in any one day and this allows for a very fun, stress-free tour.

With 5 days you can see and do a lot in this areas. Remember that travelling in Vietnam often takes much longer than back home. We cannot travel too for or too quickly in the mountains so we need more time. Also, it takes so long to get to and from Ha Giang Province itself. You should start to feel satisfied that you have seen all you want to see in 5 days but you will still want to come back for more.
It is guaranteed that you will enjoy your time up here whether you are interested in the geography, historical sites or the people.

4 days is really a minimum for this area and we do recommend you spend more time. This is largely due to the fact that it take so long to get to and from Ha Giang Province itself. Also, there is so much to see and do that you will feel that there are things left out.

This is a fantastic ride that takes you the length of the country. We have listed 18 days for this but you might like to take out or add in a few days as it may seem a little rushed or a little slow or as if you are missing out on things. There is so much to see, do and experience and we travel through so many distinct regions that there is never a dull moment. We get to experience colonial war sites, Vietnam war sites, highlands, lowlands, a huge range of ethnic people and their regional foods and cultures. You may think you are going to see it all and even though you will see a lot there will be plenty that draws you back for another tour.
This route will take you from Hanoi, down the Ho Chi Minh Highway, along the border with Laos and then Cambodia as you pass through the central highlands. This is a much more mountainous route, with only a brief visit to the coast, where you get to see many artefacts left over from the war and meet a diverse range of local ethnic people. Anyone who likes to travel through the mountains and the narrow winding roads that you find there will love this route.
This route has you flying down the coast of Vietnam. We take in a large chunk of the Ho Chi Minh Highway and do get to see the hills but we are mainly on the beach enjoying the sun, sand and surf. We pass through the three regions of Vietnam: Northern, Central and Southern and get to taste the different cuisines and experience the differences in weather and culture. This is a tour that many want to do so that they can tick it off their list or say that they did the Top Gear Vietnam tour. It can be started in either Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City and is an absolute belter of a tour.
This is a massive tour for those who want to see it all. As the name suggests we take a huge loop over the north of Vietnam from East to West. We ride along the China border and through some of the most picturesque locations taking in the daily lives of the ethnic highlanders. We cover over 1,500km on tarmac, dirt, and single track and each day presents its own challenges. A lot of distance is covered each day so only those who are comfortable in the saddle need apply. We can also extend this further if we wish to visit the war sites of Dien Bien Phu.
This tour takes us on a huge loop of the eastern territories. We see the major sites in north Vietnam such as Bang Gioc Waterfall and the beautiful Ha Giang Provines. Due to it being such a huge loop we pass through several geographic and ethnic regions, which gives us a glimpse of the diverse conditions and cultures in the area. We get to stop and local markets and see some very significant historical sites such as Uncle Ho’s Cave (Pac Bo) and the H’Mong King’s Palace before heading up to the highest peak in Southeast Asia, Fansipan. The route can be tailored to those wishing to ride on tarmac or dirt so all levels of rider can be catered for.
