The Honda Blade is the latest iteration of the Honda Cub, inspired 4 speed, semi-automatic city bike from Honda. Produced in Vietnam, they are one of the most popular bikes throughout the country. With a thriving second-hand market, owning or renting a Honda Blade can lead to some benefits and also some annoying drawbacks. Honda Blades are easy to source and sell. Due to their popularity, parts are readily available. Another bonus to driving a Honda Blade is that Honda Dealerships are happy to repair them and will do so for an affordable price.
It is also because of their popularity they can be quite easy to steal and there is a black market for parts that have been stripped from bikes. This is a negative that should be considered when leaving the bike unattended or unsecured.
There is relatively little space under the seat and only enough room for a small bag/purse, a lock, and the standard tools.
What Are Honda Blades Good for?
A Honda Blade is a very economical and reliable city bike that will get you where you need to go with minimum fuss. Easy to repair and easy to drive, they make an ideal bike for commuting and venturing further afield.
Again, it is important to remember that they are attractive to thieves. It is a good idea to take extra precautions when leaving the bike unattended, such as using a U lock to secure the wheel or turning the additional lock to cover the keyhole. To avoid the thieves, check out our parking tips in Vietnam as it can be tricky knowing where to park your motorbike.
The Honda Blade is a great bike for exploring the city and making short trips. They are good for day trips out of town and longer trips between cities. If you’re planning on a long trail journey you should consider that Honda Blades are not particularly comfortable for longer periods of time. They are also limited in range due to the small tank which might become annoying.
They DO NOT handle off-road conditions well. They can often become bogged down in mud or really shake you around on the slightest of bumps.
Honda Blades are not highly powered and are suited to either 2 people or 1 person and a backpack. Two people and a backpack could be dangerous. In this case, we would suggest the Honda Future, which you can see here. The Honda Future is a slightly bigger semi-automatic bike.
Also: Be careful not to confuse this bike with the Honda Airblade, which is a fully automatic bike.
Monthly Rental (expats):
The monthly rental rate is for long term expats that need a bike for use in 01 city. The deposit is 01 month’s rental fee (50USD). We will ask you where you work and your home address. This is so that we can come out to you to collect rent or service the bike. See our Terms and Conditions
“I have been driving a Honda Blade for 13 months now and it is a great bike for in the city and getting to work. the first one I had was about 6 months old with 5,000km on the clock and then Rent A Bike offered to exchange it for a newer one with only 2,000km. The staff is easy to deal with and this rental is hassle-free.” James Anderson
Daily / Weekly Rental:
The daily and weekly rental rates offer unlimited mileage, however, the deposit is either 500USD or an original passport. If you wish to take the bike monthly we charge the weekly rate X 3, effectively giving you 01 week for free.
For ONE WAY RENTAL, there is a drop off fee of 70USD, if you decide to leave the bike in one other our other shops. This is currently available between Hanoi, Danang, and HCMC. See our Terms and Conditions
As well as the bike, for tourist rentals we offer you:
- a rear rack to strap you bags onto
- a U lock for extra safety
- saddle bags for luggage
- bungees to strap down items
- a helmet
We have phone holders in the shop and they are sometimes available. We tend not to offer these as standard as there can be problems with phones overheating in the sun, theft, and breakage.
We service our bikes before and after each rental. We like to service the bikes at least once every 02 months or anytime you feel something needs looking at. However, we have to rely on you to some extent to let us know if anything feels or sounds wrong. Please remember that if you’re planning on a long trip, it is wise to check the bike over. We ask that you keep a note of the mileage and then tell us after around 1,000km so that we can help you get the bike serviced. You will need to pay this cost but we will refund you when you return the bike. The cost of a service is only a few dollars.
Caution: You MUST call us when having any work done on the bike. We trust you but we do not trust roadside mechanics, who may not know how to service the bikes and may overcharge you. Also, we need to talk to them directly before any work is done. Unfortunately, failure to do this or monitor the mechanic can result in serious/expensive damage to the bike and you will be liable for it.
