Hoa Binh Lake late in the evening
150 km
5 hours
Hoa Binh Dam; lakeside road; ethnic village
We take the longer, more scenic route to get out of Hanoi and get used to the bikes. Following the Red and then Black Rivers before heading into the hills. We also get off the main road and take some of the smaller roads and dirt tracks to wind our way over to the Hoa Binh Dam and then take the lake side road to get to Mai Chau.
a pretty rice field in Mai Chau
160 km
5 hours
view of Ta Xau Dinosaur Ridge; Dolphin Rock; tea tree forest
This can be a very short run if needed, so anyone who likes to lay in, or party, will be content. Alternatively, we can take some loops around the area and get off the main road. This will make more of what there is to offer in what is a very scenic area.
riding fast past a corn field in Mai Chau
170 km
6 hours
Mai Chau valley; ferry across Da River; back roads past Chieng waterfall to Mai Chau
It is quite far to get back to Hanoi and there are a mix of options and road types to take. You can speed back on the highway, but we prefer to take a more winding route through the back lanes. It is usually with sadness that we enter the traffic of Hanoi and get back to reality.
